Sad, sad news from our friends at WESH-TV, NBC Channel 2 in Orlando.
It seems, Denim Williams, age 16, was cut down in his prime whilst trying to rob a couple of a cellphone.
The misunderstanding took place in Orlando’s Parramore neighborhood, which is about as far removed from the Happiest Place On Earth as one can get.
It is unfortunate that in Williams’ short high school career, he was never educated on the second amendment. Nor did anyone ever make clear to him that in a shall-issue conceal-carry state such as Florida, anybody (that is, any good, law-abiding person, or would-be victim if you prefer) can be carrying a weapon. And that if Williams were to happen upon such a person with the intention of causing mischief, or if Williams were to break into their home or car, he will die.
The education system really could have done Mr. William a service by advising him that, should thuggery be his chosen career, Florida really isn’t the place to be doing it. A teacher should have told Denim that he would find much greater career success in, say, Chicago. Or New York City. Or Boston. Maybe even Los Angeles. But just coming up to someone in The Sunshine State and ordering him (or her) to give up whatever it is the thug is seeking…well, that’s just a really stupid idea.
On the up side, he won’t do that again.
